2) Why did you choose Santa Clara?
I chose Santa Clara mainly because of the business school and the feeling I got for the school at orientation. It was something totally different from high school and it seemed like there would be a lot of good people going to the school as well. Baseball was honestly just a plus for me at the time, but it has turned into something a lot more for me.

3) What draws you to baseball?  What makes it appealing to you?  What is special about the college game?
Baseball is unlike any other sport. It is so easy to think baseball is difficult and the most frustrating game in the world, but it is really the most beautiful game in the world. I love how it tests me and always keeps me on my toes. It is so symbolic to the way the real world will be once I have completed my eight years of undergrad (thank you redshirts). The college game is so much more of a team game I feel like than any other level. No one is going to get traded and everyone wants to be there. College teams can really become more than just a group of guys that play baseball. College teams can really develop relationships and a great atmosphere that the bigs just cannot.

4) How has the fall season gone for the team and you personally?
This fall has been revolutionary for our team dynamic. I actually feel like we are a team now instead of just a bunch of ballplayers that wear the same jersey. We have certainly had some issues with what motivates us but we are really on the right track to a great season. Personally, this fall has been great for me. I finally feel like I beat my injury and I have been throwing with no pain. I have even been able to do some things in the weight room with the team, so I could not be more satisfied with the way this fall has gone for me.

5) Who is your favorite guy on the team to compete with?  To compete against?  Why?
My favorite guy on the team to compete with is Matt Ozanne. He was my lifting partner last year and we did everything how it was supposed to be done. We pushed each other to get huuuge and make snide remarks at the same time. It is also very clear that he wants to win for the right reasons and he just loves the game of baseball. My favorite guy to compete against is probably Quinton Perry. It really bothers me if he beats me in anything, but unfortunately he is much better than me at video games, and it drives me nuts. My Napoleon complex also adds to my competitiveness with taller guys like Q.

6) Top 5 people, living or dead, to compete against?  In what?

  • Napoleon: absolutely anything
  • Tony Horton: P90X yoga, bring it Tony!
  • Tony Bennett: Karaoke
  • Brock Simon: Ping Pong
  •  Kellen Lee: Any Leg Workout

7) 5 people, living or dead, to have coffee with?

  • J Edgar Hoover
  • Tom Hanks
  • William Waddell (grandpa)
  • Russell Perry (grandpa)
  • Alice Eve

8) What would you do with a billion dollars?
If I had a billion dollars I would buy houses in Australia, New Zeland, the Caribbean, Rome and any other place that I find awesome. I would also fly all of my friends out to the houses with me and we would have the best time all over the world. I would also build my own gym and workout at least twice a day and probably be a bikram yoga instructor in different countries.

9) #1 on your Bucket List?
See a sunset over the Caribbean NOT, I want to go skydiving

10) What’s your ideal 1st date?  Who?  What?  Where?
My ideal First date would be with Emma Stone, the weird actress from Easy A, and we would start off at a Ruth’s Chris and order the Sweet Potato Casserole for dessert, then leave there and go skydiving once we woke up the next morning. Then we would park right next to an airport (because there is obviously no security) and watch the planes go over, just like in Wayne’s World.
